How to Transfer a Car Title in Texas

Title transfers must take place 30 days within the date of the sale. According to the Texas DMV, to transfer ownership of the car as the seller you must sign over the current title to the new owner. Keep a record of the buyer's information fo safe keeping as well.

Where Do I Sign a Texas Title?

There are two locations you must sign. Sign on the front of the title where it is marked “Signature of Owner or Agent.”

Sign the back of the title where it is marked "Signature of Seller/Agent."

Print your name on the back of the title where it reads "Printed Name (Same as Signature)."

Out of State Title Transfer

If you're moving to Texas, you have to register and title your car in 30 days, but first you have to get a car inspection at the nearest station. For this you will also need an Application for Texas Title (Form 130-U). The Texas DMV title transfer process also involves proof of Texas auto insurance, an odometer disclosure (if your vehicle is younger than 10 years), proof of paid sales tax, and payment of Texas title fees and taxes. 

Is there a Title Transfer Form in Texas?

While there is not necessarily a form to transfer the title, since you must simply sign the current title to the new owner. The buyer can handle the title transfer fees.
