How To Sign Your Colorado Title
You must use a blue or black ink pen when signing over your used car title, and you must sign your name exactly as it is shown on the face of the title (see image below).
The following VOIDS your Title (do NOT do any of the following):
- Signatures in incorrect section
- Signature does not match your driver license
- Erasure - do not erase or cross out anything on your title
- White out
- Rips or tears
- Mark outs - Trace overs
- Pencil or Marker usage
WHERE DO I SIGN AN COLORADA TITLE?
Sign on the back of the title in the upper left corner under "Sellers Signature.”
MULTIPLE OWNERS
Plural ownership may require all signatures of all owners on the face of title depending on the conjunction.
AND- Requires both signatures
/ - Requires both signatures
OR- Requires BOTH signature
AND/OR- Requires both owners’ signatures
DOES A LIENHOLDER APPEAR ON THE TITLE?
If there is a lienholder listed on your title, the title must be signed off and dated or stamped by the lien holder. If the title is not signed by the lienholder, then an original lien release will be needed from your lien holder
DECEASED OWNER
In case of joint ownership with rights of survivorship, the transfer must be accompanied with a copy of the Death Certificate.
For individuals, the title must be accompanied by a copy of the Death Certificate and legal documentation showing proof of Administrator, Executor, Surviving Spouse, or Next of Kin.
How to Get an Colorado Duplicate Title
If your title has been lost,stolen, voided, or damaged beyond recognition you will need to have it replaced.
Time frame to get title in person : Same Day
Time frame to get title by mail: 4-6 weeks
In Person
You can apply for a replacement title by Mail or by visiting your local Colorado DMV
- Complete a DR2539A form
- Be prepared to show a photo ID if you are a walk-in customer
- Include a $8.20 Money order or Cashier’s Check
- Submit application to your local Colorado DMV

What To Do After Selling My Car?
REPORTING VEHICLE SALE TO COLORADO DMV
The sale of your vehicle must be reported to the Title issued state within 30 days of sale date. You may report the sale by surrendering your tags to your local tag agency and submitting the Bill of Sale / Notice of Sale ,provided by CarBrain via Email, to the state.
In Person:
You may submit your Bill of Sale / Notice of sale in person by visiting your local Colorado tag agency.
By Mail:

DO I KEEP MY TAGS?
Yes, per state requirements, please remove your license plate prior to releasing the vehicle. Contact your local DMV for further instructions on used license plates.
